History/Physical:

48-year-old right-handed female.

Right-sided facial pain for one year.

There is a round enhancing mass (*) ventral to the pons of the right. There is extension of the mass (arrow) laterally into the internal auditory canal.

The 'ice cream cone' sign is present.

Tx: Suboccipital craniectomy and resection of lesion.

Diagnosis: Schwannoma

Compact areas of parallel cells (Antoni A), lower left, contrast with loose microcystic areas (Antoni B), upper right.

Hemosiderin deposits (free and in macrophages) and thickened, hyalinized vessels.

Nuclear palisades (Verocay bodies) within compact areas.
